Fall is Fabulous

School has begun, which means that I have been neglecting this blog, and Artichoke Vintage in general. My sincerest apologies, friends.

Just dropped in to let you all know that one of my items has been featured in one of Restless Hearts Crafts' Treasuries on Etsy. Check it out here!

It's Been a While!

I've been busy as hell moving into my new apartment and waiting for internet access, but I've returned! Most of my thrifting trips recently have been to buy things to decorate my apartment with, but I did manage to find some great vintage clothing while digging!

New items are up in the store!

What to expect in the near future:

Mens items, household items, and possibly some hand crafted/painted items created by yours truly. I also plan to post photos documenting the decorating of my new sanctuary. Check back soon!

Hide and Seek

This June 2010 spread for Jalouse magazine is so dreamy. The innocent, girly details and vintage inspired prints made me instantly fall in love.

The Manager of the Republic of Dresses

Style inspiration: Joan Holloway

The most incredible thing about Joan is the confidence and sex appeal that oozes from everything that she does. I am in love with the fact that she is a real, curvy woman who squeezes into the tightest curve hugging dresses that she can find, and always looks like a total knockout.

She can make anything look good.

And play the accordion! Love her!

There's a dress in my latest additions to the shop that I could absolutely see Joan wearing. Check it out!

I once read that names which begin with the letter 'S' are the names of SNAKES!

It's storming outside, which means that I am watching old horror movies all night tonight (potentially mixed in with some horror gaming). Thank goodness I have the day off tomorrow!

The first movie I thought to watch was Suspiria, which just recently showed up on my Netflix instant queue.

Suspiria is a must see horror classic. For anyone who isn't familiar - from imdb:

"A newcomer to a fancy ballet academy gradually comes to realize that the staff of the school are actually a coven of witches bent on chaos and destruction."

The styling and the sets for this movie are absolutely gorgeous. The use of color and the completely unique soundtrack gives the film such a hip, vintage feel.

Horror movies these days are all about shocking and disgusting their viewers. Although Argento's use of gore in Suspiria was pretty shocking for the time, his use of ambiance and emotional reactions are really what draws the viewer in and makes their skin crawl in the best possible way.

They just don't make films like this anymore.
